Sentinel Advisory Group Adds Industry Vet as Chief Investment Officer
Mike Harmelink

Sentinel Advisory Group, a wealth management firm based in Middleton, Wis., has named Mike Harmelink as its chief investment officer.

Harmelink has more than 30 years of investment management experience, including more than two decades as a senior portfolio manager with the State of Wisconsin Investment Board, where he managed global equity portfolios for one of the nation’s largest public pension funds.

“Mike’s leadership enhances our ability to provide tailored, comprehensive advice to our clients that incorporates strategic investment guidance and tax-efficient planning, which positions us to serve our clients with even greater clarity, strategy, and impact,” said Brent Cashore, a private wealth adviser and a co-founder of Sentinel Advisory Group.

As CIO, Harmelink will lead Sentinel Advisory Group’s firm-wide investment strategy, portfolio design, and research process. While he will not work directly with clients, the role includes shaping the firm’s investment approach and supporting advisers through portfolio and market analysis.

Originally from Sioux Center, Iowa, Harmelink earned his Master of Business Administration in finance from The University of Iowa Tippie College of Business, and bachelor’s degree in accounting from Dordt University. He also holds the certified financial analyst designation and is a certified public accountant.

“With both CFA and CPA credentials, he brings a rare combination of tax expertise and investment insight that truly sets our firm apart. It reflects our unwavering commitment to delivering fully integrated financial solutions,” added Cashore.

In August 2024, AltsWire reported on Sentinel’s transition to Commonwealth Financial Network’s group of independent financial advisers. Formerly with Northwestern Mutual, the long-tenured team reported serving more than $300 million in client assets.
