SmartStop Adds Strategic Storage Trust X to iCapital Marketplace

Strategic Storage Trust X, a nontraded real estate investment trust sponsored by SmartStop Self Storage REIT (NYSE: SMA), is now available on iCapital Marketplace, the company said. The listing, made through indirect subsidiary SmartStop REIT Advisors LLC, opens the REIT to clients of registered investment advisers, independent broker-dealers, and other financial advisers on the platform.

“Accredited investors are increasingly seeking access to private alternative investments, and making Strategic Storage Trust X available through iCapital Marketplace both expands and streamlines access for the clients of registered investment advisory firms, independent broker-dealers and other financial advisers,” said H. Michael Schwartz, SmartStop’s chairman, chief executive officer, and president. “That broader access gives eligible investors the opportunity to benefit from SmartStop’s institutional buying power in the highly fragmented self-storage market.”

AltsWire first reported on SST X’s debut in February 2025, when SmartStop REIT Advisors launched the perpetual-NAV REIT to pursue self-storage acquisitions across the United States and Canada. The vehicle remains early-stage, with a single operating property – about 470 units and 62,100 rentable square feet – as of Aug. 26, 2026.

The listing follows a pattern other sponsors have used to widen adviser reach, such as Inland Real Estate Investment Corporation and, more recently, ExchangeRight.

In other SmartStop news recently reported by AltsWire, the sponsor’s Strategic Storage Growth Trust III, Inc. will ask stockholders to approve its merger with fellow SmartStop-sponsored Strategic Storage Trust VI, Inc. at a special meeting set for Oct. 26.

SmartStop’s managed REIT platform reported 52 operating properties and roughly $1 billion in assets under management as of June 30, 2026. That platform runs alongside SmartStop’s own NYSE-listed portfolio.
