IPA Honors 11 Leaders for Advancing Alternatives Industry

The Institute for Portfolio Alternatives honored 11 leaders in the alternative investments industry at its IPAVision 2025 conference in Boston, celebrating their contributions to the sector’s growth, policy, and advocacy.

“The IPA Awards shine a spotlight on the leaders who are not only shaping the alternative investments industry today but also driving its future,” said Anya Coverman, president and chief executive officer of the IPA. The awards are given annually to IPA members who have shown extraordinary service, policy leadership, and emerging advocacy.

Five individuals received the Outstanding Service Award for their dedication and exceptional leadership in advancing the alternatives industry. The honorees were:

  • Leon Volchyok of Blackstone, recognized for his role in the launch and expansion of Blackstone’s global individual investor businesses;
  • Angie Fisher of Core Spaces, honored for her career at leading firms and her advocacy for alternative investments;
  • James Hannigan of Apollo Global Management Inc., for guiding policy initiatives and securing key advocacy wins for IPA;
  • Mark Sutterlin of Bank of America Merrill Lynch, for overseeing the firm’s alternative investment platform for private clients; and
  • Patrick McGowan of Sanctuary Wealth, for his leadership of the firm’s alternative investment activities and global research strategy.

The Policy Leadership Award recognized three individuals who have gone above and beyond to influence policy and amplify the industry’s voice. The recipients were:

  • John Carter of Edward Jones, for shaping the next generation of alternative investments through his product strategy leadership;
  • John Dunnigan of Golub Capital, for his rapid emergence as an active member of the IPA community; and
