Research: Advisers Want More Accessible Educational Materials on Alternative Investments

As adviser interest in alternative investments rises, many financial advisers still lack the educational support they need from asset managers. This is according to the latest research from FUSE Research Network.

FUSE’s latest Advisor Trend Monitor report, Alternative Products: The Advisor View, reveals that 63% of advisers believe educational materials on alternative strategies remain insufficient, a gap felt across all adviser demographics.
Although this number has improved from 76% last year, advisers continue to cite challenges in explaining alternative products to clients, highlighting the need for clearer communication from the industry.
The Advisor View is part of the FUSE Advisor Trend Monitor. The research is based on a survey of more than 530 financial advisers across all channels, conducted in late November 2025. Overall data survey findings are presented by a range of adviser demographics.
“While it’s encouraging to see improvement, the percentage of advisers who feel underserved by current educational resources remains far too high,” said Mike Evans, partner and director of advisor research at FUSE Research Network. “Advisers continue to struggle with effectively communicating the role of alternatives to clients, and they’re seeking better, more intuitive communication that helps them position alternatives more effectively.”
According to open-ended feedback given to FUSE, asset managers that prioritize modernizing and simplifying their educational materials – making them easily accessible and compliance-ready for client use – will be strategically positioned to win adviser trust and drive deeper engagement in the booming alternatives space.
FUSE’s survey-based series explores advisers’ rationale for using alternatives within client portfolios, the use of alternative platforms by advisers, why advisers choose specific private strategies, the product structures they prefer, and how they plan to use these investments going forward, among other topics.
Founded in 2008, FUSE provides decision support that enhances the effectiveness of sales, national accounts, marketing, and product teams at investment management firms.
