MSCI Scales Private Market Transparency With Acquisition of PM Insights

MSCI Inc. (NYSE: MSCI), a provider of equity, fixed income, real estate indices, and multi-asset portfolio analysis decision-support tools for the global investment community, has acquired PM Insights, a specialist data and analytics firm focused on private markets pricing and valuation.

The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

As companies remain private for longer, the private equity asset class has grown in size and complexity. However, a lack of standardized data has made these assets difficult to value and monitor compared to public market equivalents.

PM Insights, covering private companies representing more than $5.5 trillion in equity market value as of April 2026, provides pricing and valuation, and transaction and liquidity metrics, or insights into how and when these securities are being traded in secondary markets.

The firm aggregates this proprietary data from an extensive network of institutional broker-dealers and bank secondary desks, capturing a comprehensive view of global secondary market activity.

MSCI said the acquisition will support portfolio management and index creation within private assets. The company said it plans to integrate PM Insights’ market-driven data to develop new analytics solutions.

Nick Fusco, chief executive officer of PM Insights, said that joining MSCI provides an opportunity to “shape a more transparent ecosystem” for investors who are seeking greater consistency in private market data.

In fall 2025, MSCI launched the MSCI PACS (Private Asset Classification Standard), a proprietary asset classification framework designed to bring comparability and consistency to private markets. Covering private assets – including private companies, real estate and infrastructure – PACS provides granular classifications that can be used to benchmark, analyze, and communicate portfolio strategies and performance across the investment lifecycle.
