Madison Capital Group Taps Former Sterling Exec to Target RIA, Family Office Distribution

Madison Capital Group, a Charlotte, North Carolina-based vertically integrated real estate investment and development firm, has named Chris Best managing director to lead its expansion into the registered investment adviser and family office channels.
Best will oversee capital raising, distribution strategy, and team development, the company said.
“As we continue to grow our platform, expanding our reach into the RIA and family office channels is an important part of our strategy,” said Ryan Hanks, founder and chief executive officer of Madison Capital Group. “Chris has the experience and relationships to help us build a strong presence in these markets and introduce our investment strategies to a broader network of financial professionals.”
Best has more than two decades of experience in capital formation, alternative investments, and fund distribution. According to Madison, he has directed the placement of billions of dollars across public and private fund structures. He was most recently a director at Core Spaces. Before that, he spent more than 16 years at Sterling Capital Management, where he was executive director and senior client strategist.
“RIAs and family offices are increasingly embracing alternative investments as they look beyond traditional stocks and bonds to address portfolio diversification, tax efficiency and long-term wealth preservation,” Best said. “Tax-advantaged real estate strategies can play a particularly compelling role in those conversations.”
The appointment is the latest in a series of distribution hires at Madison this year. In February, the firm appointed Andrew Nerney executive vice president to expand distribution across the Midwest. In March, it named Archie Hughes executive vice president to lead distribution in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Both of those regional roles cover broker-dealer and RIA relationships. Best’s mandate focuses specifically on RIAs and family offices.
Madison has also expanded its tax-advantaged offerings. In June, the firm launched Madison Reno Hotel QOF, a qualified opportunity fund seeking $36.2 million to redevelop the former Harrah’s Resort and Casino in downtown Reno, Nevada
Madison Capital Group focuses on the multifamily, self-storage, retail, and marina sectors. It operates through subsidiaries including Madison Communities, Go Store It Self-Storage, Madison Commercial, and Madison Marinas.
