Citizen Energy 2025 Fund Returns More Than 20% of Capital as Anadarko Wells Reach Production

Citizen Energy 2025 Drilling Fund LP has returned more than 20% of investors’ capital since distributions began in May, Citizen Energy Ventures said Oct. 1. All eight of the fund’s wells in Oklahoma’s Anadarko Basin are now producing.

Citizen said the eight wells are producing about 8,000 barrels a day, roughly half liquids and half natural gas.

The 2025 fund launched in late October 2025 and raised $4 million of a $20 million offering. It is part of a broader drilling program that the company said has deployed more than $80 million in equity from retail investors, institutional investors, and management. The 2025 fund made up about 5% of that total. Citizen said the money came from institutional investors who also invested previously, from family offices, and from equity raised through the retail channel.

All eight wells were producing by the end of August. Citizen said they were completed at or below their targeted authorization for expenditure, the operator’s budgeted cost to drill and complete a well.

Citizen describes the 2025 fund as “substantially complete,” meaning drilling is finished and all wells are producing. The fund has not reached full cycle, meaning investors have not yet received their full return.

Citizen Energy 2026 Drilling Fund LP launched earlier this year. It is a $20 million private placement with a greenshoe option that could take it to $30 million in equity. The company declined to disclose how much the fund has raised but said it expects the fund to account for about 15% of the drilling program’s total capital.

The 2026 fund will take part in drilling and completing up to 12 planned wells in the basin’s Cherokee Formation, which Citizen said is a horizontal drilling rock play. The company expects the 2026 fund to begin distributions in the second quarter of 2027.

Before the 2026 fund launched, the management team raised more than $100 million from institutional and prior investors to add to the drilling schedule, spread capital across more wells, and lower operating costs, according to Citizen. Investors who choose to participate as general partners may get tax advantages, the company said.

“Our team has spent more than a decade developing the Anadarko Basin, drilling and completing more than 300 horizontal wells in the region,” said James Woods, founder and president of Citizen Energy Ventures. “Operational execution is critical to our drilling programs, and the results speak to that discipline, including bringing production online quickly in a complicated macroeconomic environment.”

The Anadarko Basin covers about 50,000 square miles, takes in most of western Oklahoma, and extends into three other states.
