NexEnergy Adds Geology VP in Second Senior Hire Since June Launch
Chris Savage

NexPoint has hired Chris Savage as vice president of geology at NexEnergy, the Dallas-based alternative investment firm’s oil and gas platform, marking the group’s second senior addition since its June launch.

Savage will lead subsurface evaluation and resource development efforts, supporting investment decisions across NexPoint’s oil and gas initiatives. His responsibilities include evaluating mineral and working interest opportunities, assessing reservoir quality, and helping guide capital allocation across NexEnergy’s portfolio, work that spans geologic mapping, drilling and development planning, and the integration of geophysical, petrophysical, and production data.

The hire follows NexPoint’s appointment of Luke Blackwell as NexEnergy’s president in June, when the firm formed the platform to bring its existing oil and gas exposure – built through its corporate balance sheet, affiliated ownership structures, and personal capital commitments from NexPoint management – into a dedicated structure aimed at a broader investor base.

“Chris brings a strong combination of technical expertise and real-world development experience,” said Blackwell. “His ability to connect subsurface analysis with execution will be an important addition as we continue building out NexEnergy and evaluating opportunities across the sector.”

Savage spent his early career at Chevron and Anadarko Petroleum, where he worked on large-scale asset evaluation and development, horizontal drilling and appraisal programs, and multi-well development projects. He most recently served as vice president of geology at Point Energy Partners, leading subsurface development and supporting drilling programs and production growth in the Delaware Basin.

The addition rounds out a leadership team NexPoint has assembled quickly: Blackwell, who has more than 25 years of energy-industry experience, was hired to lead sourcing and distribution of oil and gas investment opportunities, with an initial focus on mineral and royalty interests distributed through NexPoint’s broker-dealer and registered investment adviser network. Savage’s technical hire suggests the platform is now building out the operational side of that mandate alongside the distribution side.

NexPoint is a multibillion-dollar alternative investment firm organized around real estate, corporate credit and equities, and retirement solutions.
